Activity 1
Creative Activity: Build a bear
Duration: 20-30 minutes
What to do I need?
- Pre traced shapes: *Parent to prepare ahead of activity or download it here =>bear trace.pdf
- Two small rectangles; Two small squares; One big circle; Another small circle and 4 even smaller circles; Triangle; Big Oval; Small oval (use picture as your guide)
- A4 paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Marker
- Crayons
What to do:
- *Parent to prepare: Pre-traced shapes as indicated above
- Learner then proceeds to cut above shapes out of paper
- Then have learner construct the bear by assembling all the shapes (See example, *Parents to assist only when necessary). Discuss the various parts and positions of shapes as your child builds.
- After your child has positioned shapes correctly (by using the picture provided as reference), have him/her use the glue or glue stick to paste shapes together as assembling happens.
- Next, use the marker to draw eyes in onto the 2 circles (representing eyes)
- Lastly, your child can colour in the completed picture.

Art can help children learn and practice skills like patterning. They can also practice critical thinking skills by making a mental plan or picture of what they intend to create and following through on their plan**
Activity 2
Mathematics/ Fine motor activity: Wax drawing
Duration 10-15 minutes
What do I need?
- Candle
- A4 paper
- Sponge/paint brush
- Food colouring

**Doing artwork can develop Math skills. Children can learn, create and begin to understand concepts like size, shape, making comparisons, counting and spatial reasoning**
What to do:
- Child writes the number 2 symbol on the A4 paper using the candle.
- Parent then mixes the food colouring with water.
- Have your child paint the food colouring mixture over the page using either a sponge or paint brush.
- The number 2 will appear on the page.
- Proceed to ask your child to draw items that come in pairs of 2 (example: 2 shoes; 2 ears; 2 eyes; 2 hands etc. on the page.
Activity 3
Firework experiment
Duration: 15-20 minutes
What do I need?
- Two plastic cups
- Food coloring
- Lukewarm water (Parents to assist)
- Oil (vegetable)
- Tablespoon
- Fork
What to do: (*parents to assist child)
- Have your child fills the plastic cup ¾ of the way to the top with lukewarm water
- In a separate cup, add a few tablespoons of oil and add 4 drops of food colouring (different colours)
- Using a fork, give the oil and food colouring mixture a good mix to break up the colour beads into smaller ones
- Now have your child carefully pour the oil and food colouring mixture into the cup of lukewarm water and wait for the magic to happen!
