Activity 1
Creative Activity: Making a face
Duration: 15-20 minutes
What do I need?
- Paper plate
- Paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Crayons
- Wool
What to do:
- Explain to your child that he/she will be making a human face using the paper plate.
- Have your child colour in the plate any colour they wish to represent the skin.
- Next have your child draw eyes and a nose shape onto the piece of paper. They may colour it in as they please too.
- Then proceed to cut the parts out of the paper and paste accordingly onto the paper plate to represent the nose and eyes of the human.
- Finally your child may draw in the mouth and glue on the wool to form the hair of the person.
- Your child may then write or copy his /her own name or another name at the back of the plate. Indicating who they have created.
*Activities that allow for the exploration of facial expressions and emotions are great for developing your child’s social and emotional awareness.
Activity 2
Creative Activity: Tracing of the body
Duration: 15 – 20 minutes
What do I need?
- Chalk
- Smooth ground surface to draw on with chalk
- A spray bottle with water in it
- A wet rag or sponge
What to do:
- Have your child lay on the floor and then *caregiver is to trace the outline of child’s body on the surface by using the chalk
- Instruct your child to complete the body by adding facial features , clothing and any other accessories he/she desires to
- When your child has completed, have him/her wash the area by alternating between using a spray bottle with water and a wet rag/sponge to clean up the drawing.
*Science shows that drawing is an essential part of a child’s development. Through drawing, children are not only able to see what they are thinking, they are also able to play around with and transform their ideas.
Activity 3
Physical Activity: Dribbling a ball through cups
Duration: 10-15 minutes
What do I need?
- 5 plastic or foam cups
- Ball
What to do:
- *Caregiver is to place the cups upside down on the floor in a line or in a zig-zag pattern ahead of the child (in a line going forward). Making sure for ample spacing to pass the ball around the cups.
- Explain to your child and demonstrate dribbling the ball between the cups without touching it all the way to the end of the line.
- Repeat this activity as often as your child likes and be sure to praise efforts.
