Activity 1

Creative Art Activity: Feeling Monster Paper Plate Craft 

Duration: 20-30 minutes 

What do I need?

  • Paper plate (plain or colour)
  • Paint (optional)
  • Sponge/paint brush
  • Crayons 
  • Googly eyes/ paper cut outs to represent eyes 
  • Colour paper
  • glue 

What to do:

  1. *Caregiver is to trace lines for 4 long strips onto the colour paper
  2. Next have your child cut the strips out of the colour paper and proceed to fold the strips as show on the picture 
  3. Have your child paint the paper plate any colour of their choice (Alternatively, you may use a colour paper plate)
  4. Once dried (if painting), using the marker, he/she should draw a monster face on the plate (adding any details and extras using paper, glue and a marker) 
  5. Child then glues the eyes on (either googly eyes or paper cut outs) and pastes the folded strips to represent arms and legs 
  6. Further decorate the feeling monster as desired.

Activity 2

Story: The Little Red Riding Hood

Duration of activity: 7-10 minutes

What do we need?

  • Copy of the story for your child to either listen to or read along by use of a book/pictures

What to do?

  1. Tell your child the story/have him/her watch and listen to it via a book; pictures or visual-audio device (or have your child listen to the story with his/her eyes closed)
  2. Remember to have your child try and retell the story to you
  3. Ask him/her simple questions relating to the story afterwards. 
  4. Have your child retell you the story and ask you questions afterwards. 

*Remember: 

  • Reading stimulates the desire to ask questions and discover 
  • Reading teaches sequencing and 
  • Reading improves logical thinking

Activity 3

Physical Activity: Balloon Volleyball 

Duration: 10-15 minutes 

What do I need?

  • String
  • Two chairs 
  • Balloon

What to do:

  1. Caregiver is to tie a string onto 2 objects (like 2 chairs) to serve as a volleyball net 
  2. Have your child and one other person (maybe you if possible), stand on either side of the net and hit the balloon back and forth over the string like in volleyball 
  3. Your child can keep score by making stripes on a page, for each point scored and then adding it up afterwards.
