Activity 1
Eating health: Healthy and unhealthy plates of food
Duration of activity: 15-20 minutes
What do you need?
- Magazines
- scissors
- 2 Paper plates or circular paper cut out (to represent a plate)
- Glue
What to do:
- Have your child look for and cut out pictures of different food from the magazines. *(Parent to assist with cutting only if necessary)
- Talk to your child about health and unhealthy food types.
- Also discuss why we need to eat and drink healthy food and drinks.
- Explain to your child that he/she will be making a healthy plate by pasting all the healthy foods onto a paper plate using the glue.
- Ask your child what their favourite healthy food is.
- Do the same with the unhealthy food types. Assist your child if he/she is uncertain about certain foods.
Activity 2
Fruit salad
Duration: 10-15 minutes
What we need?
- Any fruit to your availabilty
- Plastic knife
- Cutting board
- Bowl
- Yogurt ( optional)
What to do:
- Explain to your child that he/she will be making a healthy fruit salad.
- Firstly, ask your child to wash his/her hands using soap and water, before handling the food. (Tal about this important step and why it is necessary)
- Assist your child with washing and drying the fruit. (Again discuss the importance of doing this for hygeine purposes)
- Next assist your child by cutting fruit and placing in a bowl *(Parent to peel fruit that need peeling and deseeding, beforehand, where necessary)
- Finally have your child add yogurt if it is available and preferred.
- Allow your child to enjoy their fruit salad as a heathly, nutritious snack.

Activity 3
Physical activity – Frog jump
Duration: 5 – 10 minutes
What you need?
What to do:
- Explain to your child that to be healthy, he/she must do daily bodily exercises.
- Now introduce the frog jump to your child and demonstrate.
- Start in the squat position (see image shown), feet a little wider than shoulder-width apart.
- Put your hands between your legs, like a frog.
- Jump upward, and softly land back to the frog position.
