Activity 1

Creative art constructing a photo frame

Duration: 10 -15 minutes

What do you need?

  • 4 ice cream sticks
  • Glue
  • Pieces of cardboard to fit behind ice cream sticks
  • A photo
  • Any decorations (glitter, buttons, beads)

What to do:

  1. Assist your child with building a square with the ice cream sticks.
  2. Have your child first attempt to build the square shape on his/her own.
  3. Caregiver then assist child with sticking ice cream sticks together using glue. Place in a sunny area to dry
  4. Once it has dried, have your child decorate the square with whatever decorative items available at home.
  5. Caregiver then assists the child to place a photo in the frame

Activity 2

Story: Three little pigs

Duration: 7-10 minutes

What do we need?

  • Copy of the above story for child to either listen (from an audio device) to or read along by use of a book/picture

What to do?

  1. Tell your child the story/have him/her watch and listen to it via a book, pictures or visual-audio device.
  2. Remember to have your child try and retell the story to you, following the correct sequence of events. Guide where necessary.
  3. Use the following link to watch and listen to the short story.

Activity 3

Social-emotional development: free hand drawing of my teacher

Duration: 7-10 minutes

What do you need?

  • A4 white construction paper
  • Crayons/any other writing mediums

What to do:

  1. Discuss the concept of a teacher and what teachers and how helpful and loving she would be to children in her class.
  2. Allow your child to share about being kind and loving to others.
  3. Present your child with a variety of drawing resources and allow them  be creative (including: crayons/ kokis-(supervised of course); highlighters – anything fun and novel 
  4. Encourage him/her to add facial features to the drawing i.e. eyes, mouth, nose, ears, hair;etc. 
  5. Allow your child to draw and be creative
