Activity 1
Making a play dough germ
Duration: 5 – 10 minutes
What do you need?
- Play dough
- Cotton buds/ sticks
What to do:
- Explain to your child that some germs are called viruses. Next demonstrate to them what a virus looks like by forming one using the play dough and ear buds.
- Now let your child mold the play dough into a ball themselves using two hands
- Have him/her place cotton buds/sticks all around it to create a virus.
- Talk to your child about how a real virus can make one sick and how to protect against getting sick.
- Again, use the opportunity to have your child physically wash hands using soap and water or by using hand sanitizer.
- Now allow your child to play creatively using the play dough, cotton buds or sticks.
Activity 2
Splat paint – germs
Duration: 5 -10 minutes
What you need?
- Any colour paint
- Cotton rounds
- Rubber mullet/empty kitchen towel roll
- White paper
What to do:
- Demonstrate to your child to make paint blobs onto paper and cover with a cotton round.
- Have your child form the blobs *(Caregiver to assist) and cover with cotton round
- Now ask your child to hit each cotton round and see how the “germs” (paint) splatters all over.
- Remove all cotton rounds and place in sunny room to dry
Activity 3
Walk the line
Duration: 5-10 minutes
What do you need?
- Masking tape
- Large open floor space
What to do:
- *Caregiver is to form pattern lines on the floor (zig-zag and curvy line) by using the masking tape.
- Now demonstrate to your child to walk carefully along the lines.
- Now let your child do it by him/herself (guiding them along with first few rounds)
- They will have some trouble balancing, so it’s best to lightly hold on their hands while walking on the line.
- Your child will make great improvements with staying on the line more closely, with continued practice.
