Activity 1
Colour sorting activity: Yellow
Duration: 10-15 minutes
What to you need?
- Basket with toys or any other colour objects that are safe to play with (ensure that there are yellow items in the basket too as this is the focus colour.)
- Yellow page/blanket/bucket
What to do:
- Give your child the basket with toys/objects in
- Caregiver is to explain to your child that they need to find the yellow objects or toys or those that have a yellow colour on it.
- Talk to them about other things that are also yellow that they can think of.
- Take a walk around the house and have your child try to spot any objects that have the colour yellow on them.
- Once your child is done sorting allow them to choose what they want to play with in the basket
**Sorting is a beginning math skills. Children understand that things are alike and different as well as that they can be long and be organized into certain groups**
Activity 2
Blowing and crawling to the finish line
Duration: 5-10 minutes
What do you need?
- A straw
- Pom pom/ or round cotton wool ball
- A smooth floor surface
What to do:
- Have a starting point and a finish point. You may use physical markings to indicate positions.
- Demonstrate to your child that he/she needs to blow the pom pom/ball by using their straw crawling from starting point to finish line.
- If your child struggles at first, assist them. He /she will be very excited when they experience success.
- Remember to praise all efforts.
**Blowing exercises develop oral-motor structures in the mouth which are important for speech production**
